Just Give Me ONE Leader

“Just give me one leader – even if they do everything wrong.”

That is one of my mottos for young adult ministry.  And it is not just that I love terrible leadership.  But, really, it is the value that I place on the role of leadership.

For so long, young adult leadership has been a leader-less wandering nomad.  Local churches, districts, regions, and other forms of church have not had any structure or leadership.  Young adult ministry has been more like a family flag football game than the National Football League.

But all that can change through leadership.

Committed leaders are one of the keys to a successful young adult ministry.  Leaders who are committed will continue to push through obstacles, struggles, and failures.  It might be long division and trial-and-error, but a committed leader pushes through for the sake of their young adult community.  Leaders are the people who care for others.  Leaders are the ones who know what’s happening.  Leaders create the culture and community of belonging and love.

Even if a leader does everything wrong – they are still incredibly valuable to the young adult ministry.  Young adults need someone who cares, someone who is going to always be there, and someone who they can count on.  We can lay the foundation of young adult ministry in our local churches when we build it with leaders.

Leaders who care.

Leaders who are there.

Leaders who are willing (even if they are not able).

We can do this.  We can build this.

… just give me ONE leader.

That’s all your church needs.
